Event Information

Miles Ahead is pleased to bring the ClassicCars.com MINI Challenge to Chandler, AZ on Saturday, January 9, 2021. This is an exhilarating autocross competition that puts drivers behind the wheel of identical, turbocharged MINI John Cooper Works Hardtops. Engineered by BMW, these 228 horsepower, British built MINIs deliver exhilarating performance, but are docile enough for drivers of all ability levels. No previous racing or performance driving experience is required.

2-time Michigan 500 winner and 2-time Indy 500 runner-up, Scott Goodyear, will be your host. He will set a target time so that you and your friends will get a chance to "beat the pro." He will also provide in-car radio instructions and tips as you complete a low-speed orientation lap of the course prior to your timed runs and be available for informal coaching during your session.

You will get two sessions of three runs each for a total of six timed laps. There is a break between your 3-lap sessions to debrief with teammates. You can choose to compete either as an individual or as part of a 3-person team. Final team standings are determined by adding the best lap time of each of the team's drivers from both, 3-lap sessions. Individual and teams are ranked in real time throughout the day. Rankings are displayed at the event and are also accessible on your smart phone, allowing you to keep track of your position in the standings even after you've left the event. Participation takes approximately an hour and a half.

What kind of COVID-19 safety precautions will be taken?

There is a mask wearing executive order in place by the Gila River Indiana Community, on whose property Wild Horse Pass Motorspotrs Park is located. No one will be allowed at the event without wearing a mask. That being said, the MINI Challenge is a low density, outdoor event with ample room for social distancing. Participant capacity is 24 people in each lapping session during the day. 6 of the 24 people will be in cars at any given time, leaving only 18 remaining participants in an expansive outdoor waiting area. The cars’ windows and sunroofs will be open during the event for maximum fresh air circulation. Hand sanitizer and high-grip disposable gloves will be available for all participants. Masks will also be available to anyone who has not brought his or her own to wear. Waste receptacles will be placed for the safe disposal of masks and gloves.

What are my financial obligations by registering and what is your cancellation policy?

If you are unable to participate after registering, you must inform us at least two weeks prior to the event in order to receive a full refund of your registration fee. No refunds will be given two weeks or less prior to the event, but you may name a substitute driver to take your place. If you elect to register a 3-person team, the portion of the team registration fee for any team member is non-refundable unless we receive notice of cancellation at least two weeks prior to the event date. You may name a substitute driver for anyone on your team, however, at any time, including on the day of the event. What if it rains on the event date?

The event will be run rain or shine.

Event results are updated in real time during the event and accessible at our timing & scoring site: https://bemilesahead.net/livet... The event results will stay on this site until we conduct our next event, which is currently scheduled for early March, 2021.

Event Rules & Requirements

You will register for one of five sessions scheduled during the day.

The event capacity is 120 drivers.

The winning individual driver is the one with the lowest lap time. Each driver's best, single lap is used to calculate final individual standings. The winning team is determined by adding together the best (lowest) single lap time of each driver on each team to determine its team score. The team with the lowest score is the winner.

Drivers must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid drivers license.

Passengers are allowed, but must be at least 12 years of age.

No helmets or other driving equipment are required.

No alcohol will be served at the event.

Miles Ahead reserves the right to disqualify any participant that is judged to be driving in a reckless manner or otherwise behaving in a manner detrimental to the conduct of a safe and enjoyable event for the rest of the participants.
